READING Here are my favorites and recommendations:

Being with Dying : cultivating compassion and fearlessness in the presence of death, by Joan Halifax –  This book was a game-changer for me. It includes death meditations at the end of the chapters, and my death meditation group worked our way through it.

Dying with Confidence, by Anyen Rinpoche – Having dharma friends who will help you with your meditation, and making your wishes clear is an important part of this beautiful and pragmatic book, written by a Tibetan Buddhist. It includes a chapter on Phowa and some discussion on the Bardos.

Living in the Light of Death – On the Art of Being Truly Alive – by Larry Rosenberg

No Death No Fear, Thich Nhat Hanh

The Grace in Dying – A Message of Hope, Comfort and Spiritual Transformation , by Kathleen Dowling Singh

Heaven is Beautiful, How dying taught me that death is just the Beginning, by Peter Panagore – Peter’s near death experience transformed his life and made him unafraid of death.

Falling Upward, by Richard Rohr – a book on spiritual maturity through opening to crisis.

Grace and Grit by Ken Wilber.

Access to Insight, Visuddhimagga. Mindfulness practices and many of the Buddhist death meditations have their origins in the Visuddhimagga. It is a free download, if you're interested. I like it for the death and impermanence meditations.
